You’ve unwrapped the presents, cleaned up from dinner, maybe gone out and caught Dale Watson’s annual Christmas Show and Dance
at the Continental Club. (seriously, you did go, right?) And now, it’s time to chill. Veg. Zone out. Detox from Christmas parties, too much eggnog, you get the picture.
So, with this idea in mind, Top Trip Rentals has you covered. Here are a few holiday movie essentials to keep you company while calming down this holiday season. After all, you’ve got to rest up for Willie’s show at the ACL Moody Theater for New Year’s right? Pace yourself.
From our staff here in Austin, here are our personal favorites:
- Top Trip Rentals’ General Manager Rebecca recommends Home Alone 2: Lost in NY.
- Sandra, with guest services, likes Tim Burton’s Nightmare before Christmas.
- Cheryl, our Top Trip realtor, prefers Miracle on 34th Street because “a co-worker’s mom was in the movie!”
- Chereen, Top Trip’s owner, fancies holiday comedies like A Christmas Story and Elf.
- Brenda, our company bookkeeper, enjoys “all holiday movies,” like A Charlie Brown Christmas , Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and any other classic from the 60s or 70s. Who doesn’t love Burl Ives as a snowman! Classic!
- And our newest addition to staff, Laura, our director of business development, who is French, replies with a quizzical, “What?” to my question because the French have better sense than to watch movies over an important family holiday like Christmas.
- And for me? I adore the Vince Guaraldi Trio’s soundtrack featured in A Charlie Brown Christmas. A jazz classic for this time of year. Just the opening of the song “Christmas Time is Here,” lowers my blood pressure immediately and gets me in the mood for a glass of holiday bubbly. Ahh, the holidays.

Camp Blanco boasts an 18 acre property that’s the perfect getaway spot for your “pod” with 2 separate homes, a bunkhouse, a game room and two camping tee-pees (13 beds total!) and tons of outdoor space to roam. We used this gorgeous space as our baby moon getaway and it was the quintessential setting to spend quality time together and enjoy the beautiful open air. This dreamy and secluded spot used to be a Girl Scout campground in the 1940’s, and you’ll see several nods to the historic space throughout the property. From The Ranger stone house, The Brownie bunk house, and The Tagalong luxury tents, you’ll feel like you’re in an adult glampground!

If you remember, I rented a condo in downtown Austin to ring in the New Year with this fabulous rental company. Click here to read about that trip. At the time, they were under the name “Top Trip Rentals”. Top Trip Rentals has rebranded to Lodgewell, and well we lodged indeed! Lodgewell and their incredible team will forever be my go to for destination home rentals in Texas. For this family trip we chose Lodgewell’s newest property, The Good Morning Ranch . The Good Morning Ranch is a Rural Ranch Retreat boasting 10 acres of unadulterated Texas Hill Country. It’s nestled down a dirt road just minutes outside of Wimberley, TX which is the CUTEST and COOLEST Texas town. You’ll feel like you’ve fallen off the grid which is exactly what I was looking for in this family vacay! When we walked through the door we were we were greeted with retro, GREEN kitchen cabinetry, vintage country music posters, quilts and mounted deer heads! So very Austin, and so very cool! The bag of chips and queso (and my FAVORITE salsa) on the counter made me smile from ear to ear. Lodgewell has a history of making me feel at home, and their amenity boxes did the trick!
